Bernie Sanders: is in favor of banning types of semi-automatic weapons, instant background checks, and closing the “gun show loophole.”
Hillary Clinton: would introduce comprehensive federal background check legislation, close the “Gun Show Loophole,” repeal the gun industry’s immunity protection, revoke licenses of bad-actor dealers, fight to keep guns out of the hands of domestic abusers, other violent criminals, the severely mentally ill, and keep military-style weapons off our streets.
Donald Trump: has a concealed weapons permit and believes that any gun legislation should be limited to addressing mental health.
Ben Carson: believes that the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms is fundamental to their liberty, he “cannot and will not support any efforts to weaken the 2nd Amendment.”
Jeb Bush: Signed the “Stand-your-ground” bill into law in 2005, supports concealed carry, and supports instant background check for all guns purchased at a gun show.
Carly Fiorina: is pro guns; she opposed the 1994 bill which banned a group of assault weapons, and she believes some people on the No-Fly list ought to be able to own guns because the No-Fly list is broad.
Bernie Sanders: would make college affordable through: public colleges and universities having free tuition, stopping the Federal Government from making a profit on student loans, cutting student loan interest rates, allowing Americans to refinance student loans at today’s low interest rates, allowing students to use need-based financial aid and work study programs to make college debt free. He would pay for this plan fully by imposing a tax on Wall Street speculators.
Hillary Clinton: community college tuition will be free, students will contribute their earnings from working 10 hours a week, families make an affordable contribution, the federal government provides grants to states and cuts interest rates on loans, states invest in higher education, colleges ensure that tuition is affordable and students leave with a degree, Americans can refinance their loans at current rates, and everyone will be able to enroll in an income-based repayment program.
Donald Trump: would cut the Department of Education down, doesn’t think the government should make money off of student loans.
Ben Carson: believes in an education system run by involved parents and engaged teachers and principals, also believes that Common Core must be overturned.
Jeb Bush: doesn’t believe that the federal government should be involved in the creation of education standards or curriculum or content, overhauled Florida’s education system by introducing a school voucher program and banning the use of race as a factor in university admissions, advocates for Common Core, believes there’s too much testing, and believes we should fund students rather than schools through education savings accounts which use the student’s share of state education spending and can be used on any educational expense.
Carly Fiorina: believes No Child Left Behind was positive, is in favor of as much local control and input in education as possible, and believes in setting national standards.
